Effective feedback is key to learning. But what makes feedback active and influential? Why is some feedback taken on board and other feedback ignored? In this module we’ll explore different types of feedback and its role in maximising the usefulness of, and receptivity to, learning in the English classroom. We’ll discuss different tools and strategies for effective feedback and how peer feedback can be a particularly powerful tool for learning. The module is designed to assist teachers to reflect on their current practice and to consider feedback practices that are relevant to their context. 

Objectives. By the end of the module the participants will be able to: 

• give feedback to students and their parents in a proactive and effective way
  
• implement feedback skills to improve students’ outcomes and relations within the class 
  
• design tasks encouraging learner autonomy and reflection.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the module’s learning outcomes. Practical assessment tasks are directly linked to the stated objectives and outcomes.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks. 

Workload: up to 4 hours per week.

This course, Teacher's Reflective Culture, explains what is meant by reflective practice and how to ensure that reflection leads to professional development. Clever Institute will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online system, including webinars, lectures, journal articles and web resources. You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.

Module 1 explores the different models of critical reflection, knowledge of which will help you to structure your practice and evaluate whether you are reflecting and therefore learning effectively. 

After studying this module, you should be able to:

• understand the role of reflective practice in teaching English
• recognise some tools of reflective practice
• select evidence from your teaching practice to support the reflection process 
  
• understand the difficulties in ensuring that reflection leads to learning and begin to develop some strategies to ensure reflection supports development.
